LOCATION 
It can be forgiven if Singapore doesn't apologize for its verticality. After all, this confident city nation, about six times the size of Paris, has never once doubted its own ambition. But tucked amongst the glittering glass towers and in the cultural seams of Bugis, a seemingly subdued Singapore takes hold. Cut from the same cloth of confidence yet one that's built of shophouses and sundry shops.
It is in this historic enclave that borders Kampong Glam and Arab Street that Frasers House, a Luxury Collection Hotel presides over and dutifully links the two diverse neighborhoods together. Having been under the IHG brand for decades before becoming a Marriott property as a Luxury Collection last January 2026, the building is no stranger to welcoming guests. The difference: a tourist checks-in as a hotel guest and checks-out as a family member of the Frasers household heritage community.
The scenic drive lands you at the lobby in a mere 20-minute commute from Changi Airport by car with a valet waiting to open your door. By city train, Bugis MRT is practically a few meters away and is conveniently connected by the adjoining Bugis Junction shopping complex. You alight from the plane, then to the train and arrive almost directly at the hotel's doorstep.

CHARACTER & STYLE
For starters, this is a hotel made to belong to no other city than Singapore. With its Heritage Wing built upon the district's original shophouses, and its other half, the Main Wing modeled from the city's glass towers, the Frasers House enjoys the duality of speaking two languages. One part converses in contemporary design while the other murmurs in the older dialect and slower cadence of Peranakan-inspired tiles, timber shutters and terrazzo.
Step into the lobby is as if one enters a grand Chinese-Malay household. Wooden staircases, colorful ceramics and tessellated tile motifs recall a sensual Peranakan home set-up filled with heirloom objects that have been tended by a generation of family hands. The hotel likes to call itself the "The House of Ateliers" — a homage to the craftsmen and trade guilds that flourished in the area.
Perhaps what sets Frasers House more attuned to its cultural heritage in comparison to other hotels in town, is its signature daily epicurean tasting. A curated ceremony that plays on the idea that a hotel can impart something to the guests and have them peer through the neighborhood's identity. A gesture to connect guests to the destination through food.
Reinterpreted versions of Singapore's most beloved all-time favorites: laksa, chicken rice, ondeh-ondeh are deconstructed and made into bite sized cookies and served alongside TehKita, the house's own reworking of the sweet pulled tea called teh tarik. Elevating the personal touch, the hotel encourages guests to take part in its Curated Sensory Journey, a historic walking tour around Kampong Glam's string of spice and perfume-lace alleyways, merchants shophouses and the Sultan’s mosque. THE ROOMS 
The 406 rooms and suites, render a mix of multi-cultural motifs from middle-eastern brass details, to Malay batik padded panels down to Chinese lamps and minibar cabinets. Some of the rooms give the impression of something put together with much admired patience of someone restoring an old family portrait. Plush seatings give the space a touch of refinement.
Rooms at the Main Wing lean on lighter tones. White walls complementing the Phoenix-scale pattern carpet symbolizing continuity in Chinese. A hint of teal and gold lines frame the panels and add contemporary sensibility. Nothing is fancy or loud or feels manufactured. Moving up to the category ladder, the space widens and ceilings are decadently higher akin to a noble’s private residence. Accommodations at the Heritage Wing feature timber flooring with traditional shophouse window shutters reminiscent of their original structures and fitted with more Peranakan finish.

BEDTIME ETIQUETTE
Every traveler bedding down for the night at the Frasers House does not dream the same way as the others. The hotel knows this well like how a nonya would to her children. A pillow menu is offered and available upon request to help guests settle into the night: from memory foam, to soft and firm, as well as the ones made with down and feather. The beds are firm-plush, including the cots, and paired with white, high-thread linens making up for a homeward comfort.
Blackout curtains descend to keep out Singapore’s after-dark glow from streaming in and double-glazed windows to cut-off unwanted noise from the Bugis’s street-life hum. In-room lighting dims by a turn of a knob and ByRedo amenity products from the Swedish luxury perfume house are just one pump away for that extra pampering.
THE GREEN AGENDA
Known as the world’s “Garden City” a vision launched by Singapore’s founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, the hotel follows suit in keeping with the planet-friendly programs anchoring on sustainable dining and supporting the local community. Locally sourced ingredients are favored, with seasonal menus emphasising local flavors. The hotel leans on showcasing Singapore's culinary food heritage and the neighborhood that inspired the dishes. Artisans, craftsmen, local experts and artists are brought in and are given the spotlight through the hotel’s initiatives: House of Atelier.
Under the Luxury Collection and as part of the bigger Marriott Bonvoy alliance, Frasers House also draws on group-level sustainability commitments and responsible hospitality. The rebrand promises more meaningful environment stewardship after its scheduled phased to phased renovation set to complete by December 2027.
THINGS TO CONSIDER
In all honesty, no stay is without its crumbs. I personally recommend considering these few insider notes to help you make the most of your stay:
- The hotel public places can get crowded during events. Moving around can get tricky especially around the breakfast area. Dining may require some planning.
- Two wings, two moods. The Main (more contemporary than heritage) and Heritage Wing (Peranakan-inspired design) offer different atmospheres. Choose which set-up is well suited to your needs.
- The rooms are charming but need updating to keep their luster. Good news is, the hotel is scheduled for renovation while preserving its heritage and character.
- The hotel’s location cuts both ways. For light sleepers, request rooms facing the courtyard or a higher floor-category.

“Within Frasers House there is often a story behind what you see, taste or experience. Many elements of the House draw inspiration from the neighborhood and its history. I always encourage guests to step outside the House and simply wander. We are surrounded by some of Singapore’s most characterful neighborhoods, and many of my favorite discoveries are found in the smaller streets of Kampong Glam. One is Sifr Aromatics, where third-generation perfumer Johari Kazura continues his family’s fragrance-making tradition. Another favorite is Tarik on Arab Street, where founder Shaikh Ali Redha has given Singapore’s much-loved teh tarik a contemporary expression. Singapore rewards curiosity.
