LOCATION

For many dyed-in-the-wool Madrileños, catching one of the best sunsets in the city is to view the golden disc at the Sabatini Gardens, the very same place where Moorish troops had first established an observation post where the origins of the city of Madrid sprung to life a thousand years ago. The garden is part of the Royal Palace, the official residence of the Spanish Royal family.

Just across the road from the garden and the palace, the charming ApartoSuites Jardines de Sabatini sits like a lady-in-waiting. Surrounded by other parks such as Casa de Campo and Oeste, this neighborhood is an amalgamation of residential and commercial real estate with easy access to metro stations that will whisk you to the airport and other parts of the city. The hotel is a five minute walk from Plaza de España and the bustling Gran Via, where the center of Madrid’s life blossoms night and day.

CHARACTER & STYLE

Conservatively hip, casually business and conveniently functional with a twist – are the kinds of vibe one gets after checking in. The modern fittings as well as the modest design add a touch of softness in contrast to the striking colors which were cleverly splashed all throughout the property.

There is a playful mural of matadors and flamenco dancers cascading on the wall visible from the glass lift on the way up to the roof terrace. Up here, is an ideal spot for afternoon drinks and catch-up romance while overlooking the Palace and the garden and the city beyond.

A car museum, obscured from the public’s eye is the hotel’s true element of surprise. Its extraordinary vintage car collection spanning past decades to the late 20th century piques the curiosity of any visitor even more so with car aficionados. Old photographs of Madrid street scenes are visible among the collection as if stepping into the frame of Madrid as it was once was.

THE ROOMS

A striking feature of this boutique hotel is the ability to simply feel at home. It is as relaxed as one’s private condo or apartment enjoying the convenience of a fully equipped kitchenette – electric stove, fridge, microwave, kettle, pots and pans, kitchen utensils and cleaning products. A set-up that works well for preparing quick-fix meals particularly on long stays.  Each room has a contemporary design with neutral color schemes accented by energizing colors of tangerine and strawberry pink. There are four-room category to choose from, with or without view but all come with desk fixtures, tables and chairs, sofa beds, irons and boards.  It is really a designed apartment with kitchenette run on a full hotel service.

BEDTIME ETIQUETTE

A comfortable bed makes a comfortable room. There’s enough soft pillows to snuggle paired with clean white sheets for that relaxing siesta. For that extra peace of mind, all linens and sheets undergo thorough cleaning and disinfecting.

KEEPING IT GREEN

The hotel managed to utilize light and brightness in the rooms as to cut down the use of electricity as well as using thick curtains for insulation and noise control.

  1. You know the location is alright, if your next-door neighbor is the Royal Family…

The vintage car collection sounds super cool. Funny enough, it took me 12 years to find out that my wife is really into old and fast cars. She had never mentioned anything. Now we occasionally go to car shows together.

Nothing beats an apartment with kitchenette at a luxury boutique hotel when it comes to overnight stays.

  2. We enjoy staying at boutique hotels and this one sounds perfect. The kitchenette really comes in handy when travelling with children. I will definitely keep this on in mind for when we visit Madrid.
